Citizens Electric Corporation was one of 30 Missouri electric cooperatives recognized for working safely. Employees of the cooperative have now worked a total of 439,993 hours without a lost time accident.
Nicole Moonier, director of safety described lost time as work-related injuries and illnesses that result in days away from work. “For the past three-plus years, we have maintained a record of zero lost time injuries. These achievements directly result from our employee’s hard work and commitment to creating a safe working environment. With continued prioritization of safety in everything we do, we will strive to reach even greater accomplishments in the future,” says Moonier.
The electric cooperative approach to safety is a shared commitment from the newest employee on a line crew to senior leaders – all doing their part to promote and sustain a culture of safety.
“We are proud of the steps these cooperatives have taken to ensure each and every employee goes home to their families safe at the end of every day,” says Johnie Hendrix, vice president of risk management and training for the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives (AMEC). “We offer a tremendous amount of training that always stresses safety. But in the end, it is the employees themselves who have created a culture of safety at these cooperatives.”
The recognition came at the 2024 annual meeting of AMEC, which is the Jefferson City-based statewide service organization for Missouri’s electric cooperatives.
